The Spanish Civil Guard detained 159 undocumented African immigrants who arrived aboard 10 small ships at the coasts of Alicante, Granada, Murica and Almeria over the weekend.
Most of the detainees are from Algeria and are in stable condition, although some were receiving medical assistance from the Red Cross due to dehydration, including two pregnant women who were taken to the hospital of Mortil in Grenade, the Civil Guard said.
Over the past days, the number of ndocumented immigrants trying to enter Spain by Cado de Gata and Levante coasts has increased, while the
number of those trying to enter Spain by Canary Islands and the south of Spain has declined.
The largest number of detained undocumented immigrants this weekend was registered at Murcia coast. 84 undocumented immigrants tried to enter Spain by Plata de las Aguilas in Murica aboard five small ships.
According to official statistics, the Spanish government expelled some 31,527 undocumented immigrants from 2006 to 2008.
