A Team of officials from the Metro Mass Transit (MMT) has embarked on a two-week sensitization programme in the Upper West Region to plug all revenue leakages relating to the operations of its buses in the Region.
Code named "Operation Show Your Ticket" the Team has started touring the Region to impress upon travellers, who patronize their buses, to demand tickets from the conductors in respect of all moneys paid to them.
Mr Dickson Gyawu, Wa Depot Manager of the MMT, who led the Team in briefing newsmen on the programme at Wa on Wednesday, said the Management
started the campaign with its conductors and realised the need to extend it to cover travellers.
He said the Management had noticed that the travellers unknowingly aided the conductors in fraudulent practices by paying fares without
demanding tickets.
Mr Gyawu warned that after the campaign, any traveller or commuter, who would be caught travelling in any of their buses without ticket, would be forced to pay fifteen times the original fare from the point of embarking to disembarkation.
"We want travellers in our buses to insist on collecting tickets for any money paid whether it is for the person or luggage to enable us to make
more money to acquire more buses to boost our operations countrywide", he stated.
The Team, which has already carried the exercise to the Northern and Upper East Regions, is using radio talk shows, mosques, churches and markets to reach the people with their message.
