An unidentified armed robber was killed in a
gun battle with the police during a robbery operation at Duase-Kenyase, near
Kumasi in the early hours of Tuesday.
The deceased had earlier been hit on the right hand by a bullet, when the landlord of a house he and three others now on the run, attempted to raid engaged them in fierce exchange of gun shots.
Ashanti Regional Police Commander, Mr Patrick Timbillah told the press that they received a distress call at about 0300 hours on Tuesday that a gang of robbers had struck at Duase-Kenyase and were being resisted by the
victims.
The police quickly responded and on arrival at the place the patrol team noticed that the robbers had fled.
The team decided to search a nearby bush for the gang and this paid off as the deceased had managed to sneak there.
Mr Timbillah said although the deceased was bleeding profusely he shot at the police who returned fire, killing him instantly.
The police team retrieved one pump action gun, 21 live cartridges, two chisels, two mobile phones and flashlight.
The deceased had concealed a tribal mark on his face with plaster on both cheeks.
