Mr Victor-Hermann Condobrey, Hohoe Municipal Chief Executive, at the weekend said the era of misappropriation and abuse of the mandate of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) is gone forever.
He said the practice whereby items meant for disaster victims were misappropriated and misdirected would no longer be tolerated.
Mr Condobrey said the period for deepening transparency and accountability to stem corruption has dawned and appealed to civil and public servants to change from the old ways of doing things.
The DCE said this when he presented 51 mini bags of rice, plastic bowls and cups to 400 people displaced by a rainstorm at Goviefe Todzi, Have, Tafi and Hohoe township.
Mr Condobrey warned that his administration would not hesitate to sanction recalcitrant staff of the Municipality who would want to dabble in partisan politics at the expense of the common resolve for accelerated development.
He said zonal coordinators of NADMO who were replaced by his administration were removed on grounds of non-performance and not as a result of partisan considerations.
The MCE said government has the mandate of the people and would remove all impediments towards the realization of its manifesto to the people.
Mr Condobrey pledged to smoke out "all square pegs in round holes" for efficiency and effective management of human and material resources.
He promised to make available the five per cent requirement of the District Assembly's Common Fund for disaster management in the area.
Mr Gabriel Deh, Municipal Coordinator of NADMO, said the items were a mitigating and temporary measure towards ameliorating their plight.
He appealed to communities and traditional areas in the district to grow trees, which would serve as windbreak during storms.
Mr. Edmund Batse, Assemblyman for Gbi-Kpeme Electoral Area, on behalf of affected victims thanked the benefactors for their gesture and pledged a judicious distribution of the items.
He said some victims were still staying with relatives and friends and appealed to NADMO to consider doing something for those victims as well.
