The Nkawie Circuit Court presided by Mr. Jerome Noble Nkrumah, has imposed a fine of GH¢100 on 22-year-old fridge repairer, Christian Kwasi Amaniampong, for stealing a deep freezer.
He will serve six months' imprisonment in default and in addition pay GH¢250 being the value of the freezer.
He pleaded guilty with explanation.
Prosecuting, Detective Sergeant Peasah Birinkorag, told the court that in July 2008, the complainant, one Adu Boahen of Atwima Koforidua, gave his faulty deep freezer to the accused for servicing.
Accused charged complainant GH¢15.00 out of which complainant deposited GH¢10 to enable him start work with the promise to pay the rest when he completes work.
However, Amaniampong failed to repair the freezer and several efforts made by the complainant to retrieve his appliance proved unsuccessful.
The court heard that Amaniampong went into hiding but luck eluded him when on June 2, 2009, he was spotted by the complainant at Atwima Manhyia and demanded his freezer.
He told complainant that he attended his father's funeral at Asante Mampong and on his return could not find the freezer.
