Three cashiers of the Mumuadu Rural Bank limited at Suhum have been arrested and placed in police custody for allegedly stealing over GHC 50,000 belonging to the bank.
Police sources told the Ghana News Agency that the cashiers- Mike Kudjo, Frank Ayensu and Edward Aboagye - were about to flee the country when they were arrested.
The sources said the theft was detected by some customers of the bank who reported the case to the bank manager.
The modus operandi of the cashiers was after receiving money from customers they would enter the actual amount received in the customers' savings account book but would deposit only half of the money to the bank account and pocket the rest.
The sources said in May some customers who went to the bank to withdraw money were refused because the money in their deposit account books could not reconcile with that of the bank.
The customers reported the case to the bank manager who after investigations reported the case to the police and the three were arrested.
