Police in Tema, acting on a tip-off on Saturday morning intercepted quantities of premixed fuel on the Accra-Tema Motorway, allegedly being smuggled out of Tema.
The premixed fuel, contained in 11 big barrels and 12 jerry cans have been impounded by the Tema Regional Police Command.
The driver of the LT bus with registration number WR 3611 A, which was carrying the commodity absconded while the owner, Eric Adablah and two driver's mates were arrested and placed in police custody.
Briefing the Ghana News Agency in Tema, Mr Richster Armaa Armarfio, Executive Secretary of Cooperate Social Responsibility Movement, a Non-Governmental Organization in Tema said he received information that some people were loading premixed fuel at the Tema Canoe Beach to be taken outside.
Based on the information, he asked some people to trail the vehicle while he alerted the Police who acted swiftly to intercept the commodity.
The Tema Regional Crime Officer, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Joshua Dogbeda confirmed the arrest and said they were investigating the matter.
Fishermen in Tema have consistently accused premixed fuel attendants of supplying dealers rather than they who are the direct beneficiaries of the commodity.
They had called for measures to stop the illegal practice to enable them to have regular supply of the commodity to boost their fishing business.
