Chief Superintendent Edward Oduro-Kwarteng, Mampong Divisional Police Commander, has advised restaurant and food joint operators, butchers, as well as livestock breeders to ensure that unwholesome animals are not slaughtered for public consumption.
He also urged them to adhere to hygienic practices to avoid the spread of diseases among domestic animals that could also be transmitted to humans.
Mr Oduro-Kwarteng said this when he visited some hospitability industries, butchers, cattle breeders and chop bar keepers in some districts in the Mampong Divisional Command.
Some of the Districts he visited included Agona, Kumawu, Effiduase, and Ejura.
The visit was also aimed at educating the public on the need to confine domestic animals to prevent them from being stolen and causing havoc to public property.
He warned against stealing of animals and said anyone caught with stolen animals would face the full rigors of the law.
Mr Oduro-Kwarteng also urged the public to cooperate with the police to curb crime and armed robbery in the municipality.
He said they should initiate clean-up exercises periodically at the slaughter houses and market places to improve sanitation.
Dr. S. Effah, Municipal Environmental Officer, spoke on laws, rules and regulations governing the slaughtering of animals and their conveyance to the butcher's shop.
