Mr. Joseph Ankomah, Wenchi Municipal Secretary of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), has lauded the single spine salary structure, saying its implementation would enhance the financial status of teachers.
Mr. Ankomah told the Ghana News Agency in Wenchi the GNAT was instrumental in the approach to the government to institute the structure, explaining the nation had failed to improve the living standard of teachers through the current Universal Salary Structure.
"The government's decision to introduce the new salary structure is on the good side towards uplifting the image of teachers", he said.
He said some institutions had better working conditions for employees besides their monthly salaries and that helped them to achieve higher production.
Mr Ankomah said that lack of adequate motivation for teachers was a major contributory factor to the nation's inability to improve the level of education.
"Any educational policy without teachers' motivation cannot be formidable."
