A 40-year-old Assemblyman for Ahwiafutu Electoral Area Mr Isaac Kofi Marfo was adjudged the best farmer in Atwima Mponua District at the 24th Annual National Farmers Day held at Agogoso.
He received a bicycle, a half-piece of cloth, Knapsack sprayer, a pair of Wellington boots, three cutlasses and a radio set as his prize.
Twenty other hardworking farmers including Anansu District Authority Junior High School received a Knapsack sprayer, cutlasses, small radio set and a half- piece of cloth each.
Mr Wilberforce Owusu Ansah, Atwima Mponua District Chief Executive advised farmers to desist from engaging children in hazardous labour in their communities.
He said the Adiembra Irrigation Project under the small farms irrigation project would be completed to enable farmers produce vegetables and other food crops.
Mr William Osei, Atwima Mponua District Director of Agriculture said the Ministry of Food and Agriculture had embarked on agricultural demonstration to boost maize production and other crops to ensure food security.
He said some challenges facing the Ministry, was failure of farmers to repay loans granted to them.
Others are lack of market and agro-processing facilities in the district.
