Two persons, who posed as employees of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) and succeeded in collecting various sums of money from unsuspecting people, have been granted GH¢5,000 bail each with two sureties by a Kumasi Circuit Court.
The two, Collins Arhin, 33 and John Gbeiga Yaw, 38 collected am amount of GH¢4,250 from 13 people under the pretext of securing them admissions at the Hospital's Nursing Training School.
They pleaded not guilty to conspiracy and fraud and would re-appear before the Court on November 25, this year.
Meanwhile, Gbeiga has also been identified by one Abubakari Nayim for allegedly collecting GH¢50 from him in August, 2008 for the purpose of helping to facilitate his appointment at the Bogoso Mines in the Western Region.
Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Archibald Kwesi Fandoh, told the Court presided over by Mr Emmanuel Amoh-Yartey that within this year and on different occasions, Arhin introduced himself to the complainants as a staff of KATH and was able to collect their monies after convincing them.
He later gave Gbeiga's cell phone number to the complainants as a special person who could help facilitate their admissions.
He said the victims called Gbeiga from time to time to make sure that the process was on course, he explained.
Chief Inspector Fandoh said at a certain stage, the accused persons stopped responding to the phone calls of the complainants, and they made a report to the police in October 2008, when the list of qualified students were posted on the school's notice board without their names.
Arhin, who was first arrested by the Suame Police led them to his accomplice, and after admitting the offences they were charged and arraigned.
