An 18-year-old unemployed girl who stole GH¢150 from her new suitor and used part of the money to purchase new clothing for her fiancé has been fined GH¢150 by the Nkawie Circuit Court.
Yaa Nkrumah, resident at Atwima-Koforidua in Ashanti will in default serve a four month imprisonment term.
She has also been ordered by the court to pay GH¢100 to Alfred Fosu, the complainant, after serving the prison term.
Prosecuting, Detective Sergeant Birikorang told the court presided over by Mr Jerome Noble Nkrumah that on July 28 this year, Fosu proposed love to Yaa Nkrumah after she had been introduced to him by a friend who was a witness in the case.
He said after initially agreeing to the love proposal, Fosu met her again at a drinking spot at Atwima-Koforidua at about 8:30pm and took her to his house to spend the night.
On reaching home with Yaa, Detective Sergeant Birikorang said Fosu in the full glare of Yaa removed an amount of GH¢250 from his pocket and kept it safe in his wardrobe after which he went out to take his bath.
He said when Fosu returned, Yaa told him that she had changed her decision to spend the night with him adding that all efforts by Fosu to convince Yaa to stay failed.
Detective Sergeant Birikorang said the next day Fosu detected that the money had been stolen and he lodged a complaint with the Abuakwa Police.
Yaa was subsequently arrested and in her caution statemnt admitted the offence but said she stole only GH¢150 part of which she used to buy clothing for her boyfriend.
