The Asamankese Circuit Court has convicted a 42-year-old mason, Alfred Biney, for stealing 35 pieces of iron rods valued at 1,800 Ghana cedis, belonging to his employers.
Biney, who pleaded guilty, was remanded in prison custody to reappear on November 12 for his sentence.
Prosecuting, Police Inspector D.T. Nartey, told the court that Biney worked for Synbeck Company Ghana Limited, which was engaged in the constructing of a two-storey block for the Asamankese Senior High School.
He said on October 18, a supervisor at the site detected the theft of 35.18 millimetres of iron rods valued at 1,800 Ghana Cedis.
He said on October 20, during the enquiries of the supervisor, an informant told him that one Ofori Kwadwo Asiedu collected the iron rods onto his Nissan Violet truck with registration number WR 657 N on October 18.
The prosecution said the supervisor and the manager of the company lodged a complaint with the police and Asiedu was arrested.
Asiedu admitted conveying 10 pieces of the iron rods to the house of one Nana Anim based on the instructions of Biney.
Asiedu later led the police to arrest Biney who took the police to retrieve 10 of the iron rods.
The prosecutor said the remaining 25 pieces of the iron rods could not be traced.
