A Rotary club in Sweden, UMEA CITY FFRIC, on Tuesday donated books worth 1,500 dollars to the Akyem Apaaso Salvation Army School complex in the Birim South District.
Presenting the items, Mr Samuel Appiah- Kubi, Chairman of the Ghana Union UMEA Sweden, urged the school authorities and the students to take good care of them.
Mr Appiah-Kubi said if students would be encouraged to read anything outside their class work books they would be able to express themselves clearly in English and pass their external examinations with ease.
He appealed to the students to patronize the library to improve upon their communicative competence in the English Language.
He assured the school of the club's preparedness to assist in whatever ways possible to make it a centre of excellence in the district.
Mr Daniel Yeboah, Headmaster, thanked the club for the gesture.
He was optimistic that the books would assist in cultivating the habit of reading among the students to raise their standard in the English Language.
Mr Yeboah was of the opinion that a student's good standard in the English Language could be translated into the other subjects.
He appealed to the teachers to assist the students in reading.
