Professor David Millar, Pro-Vice Chancellor of University for Development Studies (UDS) has called on parents to invest in quality education for their children to enable them gain admission to higher institutions of learning.
He explained that most of the higher institutions of learning now emphasized on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and would be difficult, if not impossible, to admit students who did not acquire knowledge in ICT due to lack of quality education.
Professor Millar made the call at the first anniversary celebration of Nadeng-Zein Academy at Bolgatanga at the weekend.
It is under the theme "Information Technology and Quality Education, a Must for the Northern Kid".
Nadeng-Zein Academy, which started a year ago in the Estates of Bolgatanga Municipality with 33 pupils, now has 420 pupils from Crèche, Nursery and Kindergarten to Primary Four.
The pupils study ICT as part of their curriculum.
Professor Millar noted that almost all the Political Parties in their manifestoes placed emphasis on quality education, it was therefore imperative for parents to help provide quality education for their children.
He commended authorities of the Academy for taking the bold initiative to establish it and appealed to the Parent Teacher Association and philanthropists to contribute to develop the school.
Hajj Bukari Issah, Proprietor of the Academy said his passion for education encouraged him to establish it as his contribution to national development.
Mr Anthony Aziabah, Bolgatanga Municipal Director of Education, in a speech read for him, said ICT was very crucial and applicable to every field of study, and urged parents to ensure their children took the study of ICT serious.
Mrs Margaret Akparibo, Headmistress of Gowrie Senior High School, urged the Muslim Community to embrace secular education.
She noted that establishment of the Academy would contribute to bridging the North-South development gap.
