Mr. Frank Marcellus Kwame Busumtwi, Birim Central Municipal Chief Executive, on Sunday called on farmers to undertake modern agricultural practices to preserve the country's forest.
He said that the wanton destruction of the forest affected weather and the ozone layer and reminded farmers that "when the last tree dies, the last man dies".
Mr. Busumtwi who was speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Akim Oda said the municipality and its environs had large hectares of forest that needed to be preserved.
He urged individuals and organisation to support government efforts at preserving the country's forest.
Mr. Busumtwi called on the people to initiate self-help projects to help accelerate the development of the area.
