A Circuit Court at Fiapre in the Brong Ahafo Region on Friday sentenced a Sunyani-based photographer, Godwin Asumani, to four years imprisonment for inflicting knife wounds on his wife.
Godwin pleaded guilty to the charge of causing harm and was sentenced accordingly.
The prosecutor, Police Chief Inspector Kingsly Baafi, told the court presided by Mr Benjamin Osei Yaw that, the couple happily stayed together with their two children in Sunyani until a misunderstanding arose between them.
He said Godwin assaulted his wife, Madam Dorcas Adoma, almost on a daily basis and all attempts by family members to make him stop, proved futile.
The prosecutor said as Madam Dorcas could no longer withstand the beatings, she packed her belongings and left her matrimonial home to her parents'.
On July 14, 2004, Chief Inspector Baafi said, Godwin armed with a knife went to the wife to check if she also carried some of his photographic materials away.
As she bent down to search through her things if some of the materials got mixed up with her things, Godwin pulled out the knife and started slashing her back.
Chief Inspector Baafi said her shouts for help attracted neighbours, who came to her rescue and sent her to the hospital, where she was admitted.
Godwin was arrested and handed over to the police.
He admitted the offence during interrogation and pleaded for forgiveness, saying he did not know what came over him to take that action.
