Forty girls drawn from five Communities in New Juaben Municipality have undergone three months vocational training in cookery and braiding.
Thirty two of them had cookery training at Liberty Specialist Institute while the eight had braiding training at Princess Palace Salon, Effiduase.
The training which began in January, this year under the Girls First Programme, was financed by World Education, a US-based NGO in collaboration with Eastern Regional Secretariat of Ghana Red Cross Society.
In all, 250 girls were recruited out of which 40 of them were selected for the training and education on HIV related issues to people in their communities to prepare them as peer leaders.
Some of the girls have started their own businesses on a small scale.
In another development, Ms Constance Kane, Senior Adviser at World Education Headquarters in Boston, USA, accompanied by Mr Bernard Henyo, Programme Officer of World Education Ghana and Mr Kwame Darko Asumadu, Eastern Regional Secretary of Ghana Red Cross Society, are having discussion with authorities of Liberty Specialist Institute to train the remaining 210 girls.
Mr Dominic Baah-Ayim, Eastern Regional Co-ordinator of MASLOC, assured the trainees of financial support to enable them establish their own businesses.
