Management of the Ghana Post Company Limited on Wednesday took to the counters of some post offices in Accra to serve and interact with customers as part of World Post Day which falls on October 9.
The day on the theme; "Stay Connected" would be use to commission the Abokobi Post office in the Greater Accra Region.
Mr Kofi Dua-Adonteng, Managing Director of Ghana Post, who served and interacted with customers at the Kaneshie Post Office, said management set aside the day to put customers at the centre of their services and treat them with warmth, friendliness and courtesy.
He was of the view that postal services were still relevant even in the face of technology because certain things could only be done through the post.
"Parcel volumes have greatly increased but letters have decreased considerably," he admitted.
Asked how he felt serving customers, he noted that he was delighted to serve them and also have a feel of what went on at the business floor of his organisation.
He was also at the sorting office to see to it that letters were sorted and placed in the pigeon holes of customers.
The interaction with customers was replicated at Accra North, Cantonment and the General Post Offices in Accra.
In an interview with the GNA on the relevance of postal services, Ms Cynthia Mensah, a customer, said despite the stiff competition of internet the postal services were still useful because they would allow students to write and improve their writing skills especially with dangers of new words being coined for sending text messages.
Mr Kofi Asante, who was at the post office to post brooms to the United States, said he would prefer to send an electronic mail instead of the post because of the delay, but insisted that the their services were still relevant especially when parcels were concerned.
"I could not have been able to send the brooms through the net and that is where the postal services come in handy," he said.
