Mr Akita Abel Okoe, a National Youth Representative of the Ghana Red Cross Society (GRCS) has urged government to invest in the youth to build upon their capacity.
He said the youth needed to be encouraged and motivated to unearth their potential for the enhancement of the country's human resource development.
Mr Okoe was speaking at the opening of a National Youth camp of the GRCS in Sekondi. It was under the theme: "Youth, an instrument for human development".
The camp meeting coincided with the 50th anniversary of the GRCS.
Mr Okoe advised the youth to actively participate in activities that will develop their potential.
A Coordinator of the GRCS, Mr Ernest Nyame-Annan, urged the youth to take up responsibilities at leadership positions.
The society is engaged in HIV/AIDS awareness programme, community and water sanitation, malaria control and first aid training.
It has about 54,000 volunteers nationwide, including 7,100 in the Western Region.
