Members of the newly created Agona East District Assembly, have completed a two-day capacity building training workshop aimed at updating their knowledge base in their work.
Mr Dennis Armah-Frempong, District Chief Executive (DCE) said the numerous challenges facing the assemblies, especially the new created districts, ought to be tackled with the urgency it required.
He said, he assumed office and realized that, a lot more needed to be done by Assembly members to effectively transform their areas.
Mr Armah-Frepong expressed the happiness that, the workshop was timely and would enable participants to perform their duties as expected.
He urged participants to take the workshop seriously and put what they learnt to practice so that the assembly could generate enough revenue to finance development projects.
He expressed appreciation to the National Association of Local Authority of Ghana (NALAG) and the Ministry of Local Government Rural Development and Environment for organizing the workshop to sensitizing Assembly Members.
Mr Kwesi Esseku, Central Regional Representative of NALAG said the Association, the mouth piece of the District, Municipal and Metropolitan Assemblies, was poised to strengthening the newly created Assemblies through training of vital areas of the assembly concept.
He stressed that, the areas include budget preparation, implementation of revenue mobilization, District Assembly Common Fund, committees systems of the Assemblies, roles and duties of the members, local government legislations to equip the members to perform their functions effectively.
Mr Esseku, who is also the Presiding Member of Awutu-Senya District Assembly, called on the members to study the Assembly's Act (Act 462) to assist them understand and contribute their quota to fast track the development of the newly created Districts.
