The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection has also opened toll-free lines for beneficiaries and members of the public to report non-payment, fraud, misconduct or demands for unauthorised payments.

In a statement dated September 14, 2026 and signed by the Minister, Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, the Ministry said payments to eligible households began on Monday across the country.

The exercise follows a nationwide reassessment of beneficiaries to determine households that still qualify for LEAP support and identify poor and vulnerable households for enrolment.

The LEAP programme completed its 100th payment cycle in February 2026, with beneficiary households receiving between GH¢320 and GH¢530, depending on family size.

Since then, the Ministry has been reviewing the beneficiary register, citing changes in the circumstances of households over time.

The latest payments are the first to be made under the revised beneficiary register following the reassessment.

The Ministry has provided 0800 800 800 and 0800 900 900 as toll-free numbers for enquiries and complaints. Beneficiaries may also contact the LEAP Management Secretariat on 0303 969 399.

According to the Ministry, the lines are available for complaints about non-payment, difficulties with enrolment or verification, demands for unauthorised payments, fraud, misconduct and other concerns relating to the programme.

The Ministry stated that "no fee, commission or facilitation charge is required for LEAP enrolment or payment".

It urged anyone who demanded money in connection with LEAP enrolment or payment to report the matter immediately through the designated grievance channels.

The Ministry said some existing beneficiaries continued to qualify for support, while others "have experienced improvements in their circumstances and may transition from the Programme".

At the same time, extremely poor and vulnerable households that were not previously covered are being enrolled.

The exercise forms part of efforts to increase the national LEAP caseload to 450,000 beneficiary households, from about 325,000 recorded in mid-2025, according to a Ministry of Finance social protection budget brief.

The Ministry said the payments were being made in phases and would take time to reach all beneficiary households and communities.

It cautioned beneficiaries that failure to receive payment at the start of the exercise did not mean they had been excluded from the programme.

It urged enrolled beneficiaries to wait for official notification from the LEAP Management Secretariat, District Social Welfare Offices or authorised community-level officers.

The Ministry also advised beneficiaries to avoid unnecessary trips to payment points or welfare offices while waiting for notification.

Beneficiaries or members of the public with complaints have been advised to first contact their Community Focal Person or District Social Welfare Office.

Unresolved complaints should then be referred to the LEAP Management Secretariat.

The Ministry also called on Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies to support District Social Welfare Officers in facilitating the payment process.

Members of Parliament were also asked to sensitise their constituents about the reassessment and direct individual complaints through the official channels.

The Ministry said it would continue to monitor the payment exercise and address challenges as they arose.

It said the current phase formed part of efforts to make LEAP "better targeted, more transparent, more accountable and more responsive" to Ghana's poorest and most vulnerable households.
