The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has honoured the President of the Accra Institute of Technology (AIT), Professor Clement Dzidonu, with an award of commendation for excellent public service and his outstanding contribution to the welfare and development of Nigerian students.
The award was presented to Professor Dzidonu at AIT’s Knowledge City Campus in Accra as part of activities marking the 9th Edition of the NANS Leadership Training Camp and Exchange Programme, held under the theme, “Frontiers of Tomorrow: Equipping Nigerian Student Leaders for Continental Growth and Innovation.”
Presenting the award, the President of NANS, Comrade Akinteye Babatunde Afeez, commended Professor Dzidonu for his leadership of AIT and for the manner in which the Institute has supported and engaged Nigerian students studying at the university. Comrade Afeez noted that Professor Dzidonu had demonstrated strong commitment to providing Nigerian students with a conducive academic environment and ensuring that they are treated with dignity, fairness and excellence. He further expressed NANS’ pride in the achievements of AIT and the impact the university continues to make in Ghana and beyond, particularly in the areas of technology, innovation, entrepreneurship and higher education.
Receiving the award, Professor Clement Dzidonu expressed his appreciation to NANS for the recognition, describing it as an encouragement to continue working harder in the service of students. Professor Dzidonu assured NANS that AIT would continue to provide quality education and support services to all its students, including its growing community of Nigerian students. He explained that AIT has a dedicated institutional structure and team responsible for supporting international students and ensuring that they receive the assistance needed to succeed academically and socially. According to Professor Dzidonu, AIT’s commitment to international student support has contributed to the Institute being recognised as the Best Internationally Friendly University at the Ghana Tertiary Awards.
The Registrar of AIT, Mr. Dominic Osei-Boakye, also welcomed the recognition and highlighted the long-standing relationship between AIT and Nigerian students. He disclosed that AIT has graduated more than 3,000 Nigerian students over the years, with more than 200 Nigerian students currently enrolled in various programmes at the Institute. Mr. Osei-Boakye said the large number of Nigerian graduates from AIT demonstrates the strong educational relationship that has developed between the Institute and the Nigerian student community.
The NANS leadership training camp and exchange programme brought together Nigerian student leaders to develop leadership capacity, promote collaboration and explore opportunities for continental growth and innovation. The 9th edition, themed “Frontiers of Tomorrow: Equipping Nigerian Student Leaders for Continental Growth and Innovation,” seeks to prepare student leaders to play meaningful roles in addressing emerging challenges and contributing to Africa’s development.
The recognition of Professor Dzidonu underscores the growing partnership between AIT and the Nigerian student community and reflects the Institute’s commitment to providing an inclusive, supportive and internationally oriented environment for students from across Africa.
