The Paramount Chief of the Atebubu Traditional Area, Ohempon Dr Yeboah Asiamah, has urged Metro Mass Transit Limited (MMTL) to extend its transport services to Atebubu and neighbouring communities.
According to the Chief, the move would not only improve accessibility for residents but also help stimulate economic activity and reduce post-harvest losses in the area.
Ohempon Dr Asiamah made the appeal during a recent courtesy visit to MMTL Managing Director, Kale Cezar, Esq. He highlighted the challenges faced by farmers in the municipality, noting that the lack of a major commercial transport system has led to financial losses and wastage of farm produce.
“The introduction of Metro Mass services here would greatly support our farmers, ease the movement of goods, and enhance the economic prospects of Atebubu,” the Chief said.
He also commended the company’s leadership and encouraged its management to continue contributing to the transformation of Ghana’s transport sector in line with national development goals.
In response, Kale Cezar, Esq. briefed the Paramount Chief on the operational challenges he inherited upon taking office and detailed ongoing interventions to improve services. These measures include salary increases, staff welfare improvements, and incentive schemes aimed at boosting employee morale.
Mr Cezar further revealed that Metro Mass is expecting a new fleet of buses, with the first batch set to arrive by the end of March 2026, followed by additional units in the coming months.
He assured Ohempon Dr Asiamah that the company plans not only to run buses along the Atebubu route but also to establish a full branch office in the municipality to serve residents and surrounding communities.
Additionally, Metro Mass will soon deploy cargo vehicles to support farmers and traders, facilitating the safe and efficient transport of goods.
This initiative is aimed at strengthening the agricultural value chain and boosting the economic well-being of residents across the Atebubu area.
