The Minister of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, has disclosed that the government plans to support the private sector to establish three large garment factories as part of efforts to boost industrial growth and create jobs.

Speaking at the Government Accountability Series in Accra on Wednesday, January 21, she said the planned garment factories are expected to employ about 27,000 people in the long term.

Ofosu-Adjare explained that the garment industry has strong job creation potential because it employs a large number of people and requires minimal training before workers can be engaged.

According to her, the initiative will provide employment opportunities for many Ghanaians while strengthening the country’s industrial base, adding that government support for the private sector remains central to its economic growth strategy.

“I can say for a fact that 2026 even looks better. 2026 looks better because the government is going to support the private sector to establish three big garment factories, and we seek to employ 27,000 people in the long run with these garment factories.

“A garment factory employs a lot of people. The beauty is the fact that you don’t have to learn for three or five months before you get a job. So this is good,”  Minister Ofosu-Adjare stated.
