Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has raised concerns over visa processing and broader immigration matters in discussions with the United States as part of efforts to improve consular cooperation between the two countries.

The concerns were highlighted when the Minister received the Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of the United States of America, Rolf Olson, at the Ministry on Tuesday, January 13, 2025.

The meeting, which focused on strengthening Ghana–US relations, provided an opportunity for both sides to review achievements over the past year and exchange views on key bilateral and regional issues.

Mr. Ablakwa underscored the importance of Ghana’s long-standing relationship with the United States and noted significant progress in areas such as trade, health, and people-to-people relations.

He also stressed the need for continued collaboration in promoting peace and stability.

However, the Foreign Affairs Minister raised issues relating to consular cooperation, visa processing, and immigration, calling for sustained dialogue and improved coordination to address challenges affecting citizens of both countries.

On his part, Mr. Olson reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to deepening its partnership with Ghana, acknowledging the progress made in bilateral cooperation over the years.

He provided updates on ongoing engagements between the two countries in key areas and highlighted efforts being made to enhance cooperation, including on immigration-related matters.

Both sides expressed satisfaction with the state of bilateral relations and committed to sustaining collaboration to advance mutual interests.
