The Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP) has completed a two week practical training exercise for newly recruited caterers in the Volta, Oti and Bono Regions, as part of efforts to strengthen implementation and improve the quality of meals served to public basic school pupils.
The training focused on equipping caterers with hands on skills in the effective use of locally produced foodstuffs, in line with the programme’s objective of supporting local agriculture while ensuring the delivery of nutritious meals to beneficiary children.
Participants were taken through sessions on food hygiene and safety, nutrition, portion control, the use of handy measures for serving meals, and proper kitchen maintenance.
In a statement, the GSFP said the training was designed to address operational gaps and ensure uniform standards across schools under the feeding initiative.
According to the Ghana School Feeding Programme, the capacity building exercise forms part of a broader strategy to improve service delivery, promote high standards of hygiene and nutrition, and deepen the programme’s contribution to local economic development through the use of locally sourced food items.
The programme acknowledged the support of key stakeholders whose collaboration ensured the success of the training. These included Women in Agricultural Development, the Ghana Education Service, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies, training facilitators and other partners involved in the exercise.
In a statement signed by the National Coordinator, Hajia Fati Forgor, the programme reaffirmed its commitment to continuous capacity building and stakeholder engagement to guarantee the provision of safe, nutritious and adequate meals for all beneficiary pupils nationwide.
The statement also extended seasonal goodwill to stakeholders and the general public, wishing them a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
