The University of Media, Arts and Communication (UniMAC) has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with AKUNA, marking a major step toward strengthening industry-focused creative education.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Eric Opoku Mensah and the Chief Operating Officer of the Akuna Group Ghana, Mariam K. A Buahin, signed on behalf of their respective institutions.
The MoU enables students at the UniMAC to benefit from structured mentorship, hands-on industry training, impactful content-creation opportunities and pathways into the commercial side of the creative economy.
The MOU signals a future in which academic expertise and industry innovation merge seamlessly, empowering Ghana’s next generation of media professionals to translate their skills into sustainable businesses, global influence and meaningful contributions to the creative sector.

Prof. Mensah emphasised the significance of formalising a long-standing relationship with the Akuna Group.
“We needed to formalise this whole process so that we can move issues forward,” he said, highlighting UniMAC’s commitment to preparing students for global opportunities.
“Our goal has always been to equip graduates not only with academic knowledge but also with practical skills that are applicable across diverse creative sectors,” he said.
Ms Buahin reaffirmed AKUNA’s commitment to nurturing and elevating Ghanaian creative talent and that UniMAC is a worthy party to see this materialise.
The Rector of the Institute of Film and Television (IFT), Professor Samuel Manasseh Yirenkyi, expressed his satisfaction that the MOU would provide a structured framework for student engagement with industry professionals.
“Today is a perfect day for us to officially start guiding our work,” he said, noting that students would benefit from mentorship programmes, internships, content creation collaborations and industry-focused training designed to prepare them for both local and international markets.
The signing ceremony brought together UniMAC’s leadership, including the Pro Vice-Chancellor - Professor Winston Kwame Abroampa, the acting Registrar - Dr Obaapanin Adu Oforiwaa and the Director of the Centre for Global Education and Collaboration (CGEC) - Dr Lawrencia Agyepong, the UniMAC-IFT’s Finance Director - Emmanuel Brown and other senior management.
