The Chairman of the Governing Council of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS), Rev. Stephen Wengam, has reaffirmed the Service’s readiness to protect Ghana’s borders, assuring the public of intensified efforts to enhance national security.

Rev. Wengam revealed that the Council will soon launch an innovative initiative aimed at mobilising public and private sector support to equip the Service to effectively deliver on its mandate.

He noted, however, that government allocations remain “woefully inadequate” to meet the operational needs of the GIS.
He made the remarks during a working visit by the Governing Council to the Kotoka International Airport in Accra.
Welcoming the Council, the Regional Commander, DCOI (Dr.) Noah Ahomka Yeboah highlighted the significant contribution of the Immigration Service to national revenue generation.

He also outlined key challenges facing the Service, including inadequate office space, insufficient staff accommodation, and a lack of vehicles and essential working tools.
A staff durbar was subsequently held, giving officers the opportunity to share their concerns and interact directly with members of the Governing Council.

The Controller-General of Immigration, Mr. Basentale Amadu, condemned the recent killing of some officers and urged for peace in conflict-prone communities, stressing the need for greater protection and support for personnel.
