Mr Bennett Emma Raymond, the Headteacher of Gina’s Angel School, has emphasised the importance of educational trips for students, to enhance their general learning and education.
Mr Raymond said the main purpose of organising educational trips was to provide learners with real-life experiences that complemented what they had learnt in the classroom.
He told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview that educational trips exposed students to practical situations, broaden their knowledge and help them understand how classroom concepts were applied in the real world.
He further stated that it made learning more meaningful and enjoyable and helped learners to retain information better, further the development of observation skills, teamwork, communication, and critical thinking abilities.
He emphasised that educational trips bridged the gap between theory and practice, helping students to connect with learning processes.
Mr Raymond, who is also the founder of Intellect School Quiz Educational Consult, Tema, recommended that schools should organise educational trips at least once every term or twice in an academic year depending on the institutions’ resources and learning objectives that align to the subjects studied in class.
“Educational trips encourage students to interact with classmates, teachers and people they meet in the field, as they help develop students’ strong communication and interpersonal skills,” he said.
He stressed that teachers could use the experiences and observations after the trip for teaching purposes by encouraging them to share what they learnt through discussions, reports, drawings, and projects.
Mr Raymond said educational trips also aided teachers in connecting lessons to real situations, making teaching more interactive and effective.
The trips also helped slow learners and those with learning difficulties, as they provide hands-on learning experiences and promote learning in various environments.
