The Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) has handed over a set of furniture to two schools in the metropolis.
The donation includes 120 desks for learners, 15 chairs and six tables for facilitators of Community 8 Number 1 and Republic Road schools, respectively.
Speaking at a brief ceremony last Monday, the Metropolitan Chief Executive of Tema, Ebi Bright, was optimistic that the furniture would enhance the learning environment for students and provide teachers with better working conditions.
The MCE said the assembly recognised the need to improve on the educational infrastructure, some of which had deteriorated, adding, "In partnership with GETFund and other educational agencies, we are going to be taking a serious look at improving school infrastructure generally across the metropolis.
"We want to let you understand that we know how important it is that you are also comfortable. Your safety and comfort start from the structure itself.”
The initiative, she explained, was part of a broader effort to improve school infrastructure, with partnerships between government agencies and educational organisations.
The Tema Metropolitan Director of Education, Bernice Ofori, who received the items, described the gesture from the TMA as a welcome development that promises to significantly enhance education service delivery.
She said new desks and chairs would provide students with a more comfortable learning environment.
She urged the learners and facilitators to take care of the furniture as part of their commitment to supporting the assembly's effort at promoting education in Tema and positively impacting students' and teachers' lives.
