TV’s The Point of View on Monday, August 11, Mr. Ablakwa said the tragedy had left him and many others “petrified and traumatised.”
He described Dr. Omane Boamah as not only a key figure in his political journey but also a brother and close confidant in his personal life.
“This has been a difficult period for us, devastating, traumatising, depressing. We are all petrified, we are shattered. I would like to use this opportunity to extend deepest commiserations to the children, spouses, families, and loved ones. Deepest commiserations to the President, Vice President, the government and the people of Ghana,” he said.
Mr. Ablakwa called the crash “a tragedy of monumental proportions” and the first of its kind in the country’s history.
He said the loss had tested their faith and beliefs, adding that only divine comfort could bring healing to the bereaved families and the nation.
“This has never happened in our history. This is a tragedy which is unspeakable, a tragedy of monumental proportions which we’re still grappling with. It questioned our faith, our belief in a lot of principles we hold dear. And we can only ask the Lord to comfort our nation and grant the family members fortitude.
“I have had sleepless nights; it’s been so psychologically draining. Difficult to take, everybody knows that Dr Omane Boamah was a brother to me,” he said.
The crash claimed the lives of eight people, including Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, former parliamentary candidate, Samuel Aboagye, and National Democratic Congress (NDC) Vice Chairman, Samuel Sarpong, and Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator.
The crew members who perished were Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
A state funeral for the victims will be held on Friday, August 15, 2025, at the Black Star Square in Accra.
