Speaking at the Bible Week Symposium in  Accra yesterday on the theme: “The Bi­ble and unity for nation building,” he stated that “Unity does not mean uniformity but rather recognising diversity as a strength.”

Rev. Dr Addo Jnr cautioned against divisions driven by political, religious, and ethnic differences and warned that internal conflicts could cost lives and stalled the country’s development.

“Diversity is an unavoidable reality of life. Just as the body is made up of many parts that work together, so must people of different backgrounds and perspectives collaborate to build a prosperous nation,” he stated.

Rev. Addo Jnr said a divided society could not progress and urged Ghanaians to channel their political and ideological differences into productive dialogue rather than discord.

Criticising partisan politics that priori­tises party interests over national develop­ment, Rev. Dr Addo Jnr questioned why individuals with good ideas would withhold them until their party is in power.

“If I have ideas that will build the nation, why should I wait until my party comes to power before I share them? That mindset will not build our nation,” he said.

The former Chairman of the National Peace Council, Rev. Professor Emmanuel Asante, urged churches to play a more active role in promoting peace and unity beyond their congregations.

He encouraged faith-based organisations to engage with their communities, includ­ing those of different beliefs, to foster national cohesion.

The Right to Information (RTI) Officer at the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Ms Lucille Hewlett, emphasised that unity must start at home “Where children learn values that shape their future interactions.”
