The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has urged the public to disregard fraudulent social media posts falsely suggesting the sale of lost or forgotten baggage at Kotoka International Airport (KIA).
The deceptive posts which are largely circulating on Facebook advertise unclaimed luggage for sale at a suspiciously low price of GHS 32.
This posts according to GACL first emerged in October 2024, prompting management to issue a disclaimer to alert the public.
Despite the warning, fraudsters have resumed similar deceptive tactics to mislead unsuspecting individuals.
“We have recently become aware of fresh attempts by these faceless individuals, once again using Facebook, to deceive the unsuspecting public into paying a specific amount of money. Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) would like to emphatically reiterate that the post is completely false, orchestrated to misinform and dupe the unsuspecting public, and should thus, be disregarded”, GACL said in a release.
GACL has clarified that these posts are entirely false and are intended to misinform and exploit the public for financial gain.
The company emphasised that all official announcements are disseminated solely through its verified social media channels insisting that it has never authorised any third party to communicate on its behalf.
GACL urged the public to remain vigilant, ignore unofficial posts about luggage sales, and report any suspicious activities as it is committed to protecting the public.
