Gorilla Moverz Ghana, a group of technology enthusiasts passionate about the MOVE blockchain and animal welfare, marked the first day of 2025 with a generous donation to the Accra Zoo.
The group, known for its commitment to both the blockchain space and animal care, presented a sum of GH?5,000 and a selection of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to aid in the zoo's operations.
The donation ceremony was attended by key members of Gorilla Moverz, including Dr. Bright Agyapong who spoke passionately about the group’s dual commitment to technology and animal conservation.
“We are here today, on the first day of the year, to donate GH?5,000 and PPEs to the zoo,” Dr. Agyapong said. “Although we are tech enthusiasts, particularly of the MOVE blockchain, we are also deeply passionate about animals. We wanted to use this opportunity to contribute to the care of the animals here and support the dedicated staff.”
Looking ahead, Dr. Agyapong shared the group’s intention to make this donation an annual tradition. “This is just the beginning. We plan to continue this effort annually, supporting the zoo and its conservation efforts.”
Samuel Mawuli Sasu, a key member of the Gorilla Moverz team, added that the group is not only focused on animal welfare but also committed to expanding the MOVE blockchain ecosystem in Ghana and across Africa. “In 2025, we plan to onboard new developers into the MOVE ecosystem. Alongside our charity efforts, we aim to spread awareness about MOVE and its potential, hoping that more people will explore the possibilities of this blockchain,” Sasu noted.
In light of the changing regulatory landscape for cryptocurrencies in Ghana, Sasu also expressed the hope that Ghana’s financial regulators would provide clearer guidance and policies for blockchain and crypto projects in the coming year. “We are optimistic that in 2025, there will be a more defined regulatory environment that will support blockchain projects and foster innovation,” he said.
Mr. Paul Addah, the Manager of the Accra Zoo, expressed his heartfelt gratitude on behalf of the zoo and the Wildlife Division of the Forestry Commission. “On behalf of the executive director and the entire wildlife division, we want to say a very big thank you for this wonderful gesture,” Mr. Addah said. “The Accra Zoo is the only surviving forest in the city, and it’s crucial that we take care of it now, before it’s too late.”
Mr. Addah emphasized the importance of preserving the zoo as a vital green space in Accra, calling on other organizations and individuals to join in the effort to protect the environment. “We must not wait until it’s too late to protect our forest. We need to act now, and we are grateful for the support from Gorilla Moverz,” he added.
Eric Anloga, a Silverback in the Gorilla Moverz community, elaborated on the group's broader vision. “Gorilla Movers is not just a group; it's a community pushing a project called The Movement,” Anloga explained. “We’re focused on blockchain technology, transactions, and the broader use cases of blockchain, like decentralized applications and staking projects. Our mission is to make sure everyone knows about the MOVE blockchain and its possibilities.”
Gorilla Moverz Ghana’s donation is a testament to the group’s commitment to giving back to society while pushing the boundaries of innovation in the blockchain space. With plans to continue its charitable efforts in 2025 and beyond, the group is setting a strong example of how technology can be used to support communities and conservation initiatives.
