In a heartwarming display of kindness and generosity, a Catholic priest, Very Rev. Fr. Stephen Amoah Gyasi, has presented gifts to 207 newborn babies and their mothers at the St. Francis Xavier Hospital at Assin Fosu in the Central Region to mark his birthday on Tuesday.
The December-born baby beneficiaries included 110 boys and 97 girls, five of whom were born on Christmas Day, with another five born on December 31.
Rev. Fr. Amoah Gyasi said he decided to spend his birthday, which falls on December 31, sharing love with the newborns and their mothers to demonstrate God's love to others.
As part of the celebration, Rev. Fr. Amoah Gyasi presented items such as diapers, children's clothes, treated mosquito nets, and baby food to all babies born in December at the hospital.
The generous donation was received with joy and gratitude from the mothers and hospital staff, who were deeply touched by Rev. Fr. Amoah Gyasi's kindness.
Rev. Fr. Amoah Gyasi, who is also the Director of Caritas and Socio-Economic Development of the Catholic Archdiocese of Cape Coast, explained that the gesture was motivated by his belief that children are gifts from God and deserve utmost love, care, and support.
He emphasised the importance of generosity towards children, noting that they are innocent and deserving of kindness. He also encouraged others to follow his example and extend benevolence to those in need.
"I believe that children are a blessing from God, and it is our responsibility to care for them and provide for their needs," Rev. Fr. Amoah Gyasi said. "I hope that my small gesture will inspire others to show kindness and generosity to those in need."
Rev. Fr. Amoah Gyasi also took the opportunity to express his appreciation to the hospital managers and nurses at St. Francis Xavier Hospital, commending them for their tireless dedication, compassion, and exceptional care for the babies and their mothers.
The Deputy Nursing Officer in charge of the St. Francis Xavier maternity ward, Ellen Adobea Ansah, received the items on behalf of the babies and their mothers. She expressed gratitude to Rev. Fr. Amoah Gyasi for his generosity.
She also appealed to other individuals and organisations to support the hospital with incubators, radiant warmers, and baby cots to enhance their work.
"We are grateful to Rev. Fr. Amoah Gyasi for his kindness and generosity," Ms. Ansah said. "His donation will go a long way in supporting the needs of our newborn babies and their mothers. We appeal to others to follow his example and support us in our work."
