An initiative aimed at equipping students with skills and opportunities to address pressing societal issues and inspire them to contribute meaningfully to sustainable development has been launched in Accra.
An initiative aimed at equipping students with skills and opportunities to address pressing societal issues and inspire them to contribute meaningfully to sustainable development has been launched in Accra.
Dubbed:‘the Global Innovation Management Institute (GIMI) Impact Social Innovation Initiative,’ the programme is designed to empower high school students to tackle global social challenges through innovative solutions.
FES Consultancy Ltd, the driving force behind the programme’s introduction to Ghana, launching it in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service (GES) and Ghana Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Service.
FES Consultancy is a management consultancy firm in Ghana whose mission is to empower businesses with strategic insights and innovative solutions.
Addressing participants at the launch on Wednesday, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of company, Solomon Addai,highlighted the importance of innovation as a driver of social change.
“We recognise that innovation is crucial to providing social change and addressing the most pressing issues in our communities. This informs our resolve to support every student who wishes to shape the future through impactful social innovation initiatives,”he said.
MrAddaistated that the core aim of the programmewas to present a social education platform designed to prepare students with 21st-century skills such as creativity, collaboration, leadership and innovation.
The CEO further sated that the initiative which has been piloted in 14 schools nationwide, including Achimota School, Presbyterian Boys’ Senior High School, and St Mary’s Technical Institute, would encourage students to develop innovative solutions to real-world problems within their schools and communities.
MrAddaialso revealed that participating students will present their solution concepts to a jury at the launch for potential sponsorship and certification.
He said,“We aim to build capacity by supporting educators and empowering our high school students. Through this programme, we hope to shape our young people into future active citizens who will address critical challenges such as unemployment and water scarcity.”
Additionally, MrAddai said that“the event benefited at least 120 Ghanaian students and 35 students from Detroit, fostering global citizenship through cultural exchange. 10 Ghanaian students were selected for the prestigious YPTG Leadership Scholarship, offering them the opportunity to participate in a leadership exchange programme in the United States in July 2025.”
The Director-General of Ghana TVET Service, David Prah, commended FES Consultancy Ltd and its partners for their commitment to promoting social impact in Ghana, and called on stakeholders to support the nationwide implementation of the programme.
He encouraged students and schools to embrace the opportunity, emphasising the programme’s potential to transform lives.
“I urge all Ghanaian students to take advantage of this initiative to develop innovative solutions to societal challenges. The government remains committed to supporting programmes that drive economic growth and improve lives,”MrPrahnoted.
“The Ghana TVET Service has been proactive in promoting skills and entrepreneurship through teacher training and policy reforms. This initiative aligns perfectly with our vision of accelerating economic growth and development through innovation,” he noted.
Moreover, the Director-General said “The government has invested in various measures to promote and support innovation for sustainable development.”
