A strong synergy among all the security agencies is key to improving the security in the country, the Upper East Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Raymond Adofeim, has said.
He stressed that given the complexities of dealing with security issues, it was important for all agencies involved to collaborate to achieve the objective instead of working in isolation.
The Regional Police Commander made the call when he addressed personnel of the various security services in Bolgatanga after a route march through some principal streets of the town last Friday, October 18, 2024.
“Undoubtedly, the strength of national security rests on the synergy and togetherness among all the security agencies in the performance of their professional duties and mandate,” he stressed.
The officers, numbering 256, had successfully completed a 21-day intensive training at the Security Resilience and Peace Building Training and Education Centre (SRAPBTEC) in Nangodi in the Nabdam District in the region.
Drawn from four regions, namely Upper East, North-East, Savannah and Northern, they were taken through joint security operational skills, combating violent extremism, community-driven peace building and resilience, among others.
The training, which was organised by Project Bambo of the Ghana Police Service together with Project Karrel team from the United Kingdom (UK), was tailored towards building collaboration and joint service operations among the various security agencies.
DCOP Adofeim mentioned that the joint training had been put in place over the years by the national security to bring members of the various security agencies together to share experience and knowledge to perform their duties better.
Particularly, he said there were experiences in other countries in relation to the threat of violent extremism in the sub-region, adding “therefore, we are taking advantage of our international partners to share experiences so as to tackle such threat”.
He said the national security was not relenting in its efforts to forge ahead and provide the needed security to the citizenry and gave the assurance that going forward, the security agencies would build a strong and resilient working atmosphere that would survive every security challenge that may arise.
DCOP Adofeim entreated the officer who benefitted from the training to put the knowledge acquired to good use as well as work to improve the security within their respective jurisdiction, adding that “such a move would help shore up public confidence in our work”.
The Upper East Regional Director of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Jerry Asamani, indicated that the region was plagued with many security issues ranging from crime, chieftaincy disputes, smuggling, among others.
He, therefore, appealed to the various security agencies to professionally apply the knowledge acquired during the training to help address some of the teething security challenges confronting the region.
Ahead of the December polls, he also charged them to be disciplined and perform their duties to protect the relative peace in the nation before, during and after the crucial general election.
In a remark, the Regional Commander of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority, Assistant Commissioner of Customs, Samuel Owusu, said it was refreshing to bring personnel of the various security services together for training and urged them to always perform their task with excellence and professionalism.
