The National Commission on Culture (NCC) and the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) are set to officially launch the maiden edition of the "Theatre for Peaceful Elections" project.
The project which would be rolled out in all 16 regions, involves the use of theatrical performances to create awareness about the upcoming election and the need to maintain the peace in the country before, during and after the elections.
In a release issued to the Ghana News Agency, on Tuesday, in Accra, it said theatre was a powerful art form and medium to preach, sensitise, educate and mobilize the citizenry for peaceful election and national cohesion.
It said the project would help give a practical and meaningful understanding of the kind of peace expected during the elections, saying "Seeing these instances in drama or dance performances lingers on in their minds forever.
Every region and district will have these forms of theatrical performances. The impact of no violence would be felt by everyone."
The release said the various regional cultural centres under the NCC nationwide would come up with their own specific theatrical performances, using the local languages to get the message across.
"This nationwide use of theatre for peaceful elections shows how theatre is a force to reckon with," it added
