Vital Voices Global Partnership, renowned for its commitment to amplifying women's leadership worldwide, has launched two significant initiatives in honor of Women's History Month. Collaborating with the United Nations, the organization unveiled an engaging art exhibit titled "Portraits of Progress: Women Powering the Global Goals," displayed at the United Nations Headquarters. Concurrently, the organization is set to conduct its 17th annual Global Mentoring Walks, uniting women leaders across the globe.
From March 1 through 22, the U.N. Visitor's Gallery will house the interactive "Portraits of Progress" exhibit, developed in partnership with the UN Office of Partnerships. This exhibit showcases the portraits and stories of women leaders from various countries, each dedicated to one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Visitors can hear directly from these influential women by scanning QR codes beside their portraits, offering personal insights into their efforts to address global challenges such as poverty, health, education, and climate change.
Alyse Nelson, President & CEO of Vital Voices, emphasized the exhibition's goal to highlight the indispensable role of women in global progress and the need for increased investment in their innovative solutions. "Women and girls face the brunt of many global issues. Their unique perspectives and solutions are crucial for comprehensive progress," Nelson stated.
The exhibit features a diverse group of women, including Zeinorin Angkang tackling poverty, Nora Jeanne Joseph fighting hunger, and Helena Gualinga advocating for climate action. The opening was graced by nearly a dozen of the women featured, with their stories brought to life by artists Gayle Kabaker, Stef Wong, and Erin K. Robinson.
Simultaneously, the Vital Voices Global Mentoring Walks are set to take place on March 2, starting from New York City's High Line. Spearheaded by Vital Voices co-founders, including fashion icon Diane von Furstenberg, and Alyse Nelson, the walks aim to foster mentorship and support among women from various sectors. This year's theme, "Inspire Inclusion," underscores the belief that true impact is rooted in inclusive communities. Over 200 local women will join the New York walk, with parallel events in over 43 countries, marking a unified global effort towards gender equality and empowerment.
These initiatives not only celebrate Women's History Month but also kickstart a month-long focus on female leadership and the collective push for a more equitable world. For more information or to participate in the Global Mentoring Walks, interested parties can reach out to media@vitalvoices.org.
