One of the only Black women leading a major global tech philanthropy, Briana oversees the Interledger Foundation, a grant-making, independent foundation stewarding open standards for financial inclusion for the collective good. ILF supports a global community of developers, entrepreneurs, innovators, creators, and artists building solutions to remove barriers to access and equity within outdated, restrictive systems. The foundation has awarded over $14 million for 188 grants in over 40 countries.
To lead an organization whose mission is to enact global systemic change requires deep financial expertise, commercial acumen, firmly rooted social values, and belief change is possible. Briana passionately supports and inspires others to challenge the mindset that systems cannot evolve. She also demonstrates why it's good business to be inclusive.
To achieve this mission of global financial inclusion, the Interledger Foundation stewards and advocates the Interledger Protocol (ILP), an open protocol that permits frictionless payments and micropayments across currencies and ledgers. We also advocate for financial inclusion by offering mission-aligned awards to entrepreneurs, organizations, and government agencies who are from or working with historically marginalized communities.
Briana holds a BA in Accounting from the University of Michigan, an MBA from Wayne State University, and has completed post-graduate work in strategic leadership at Stanford University. Originally from Detroit, Briana has lived in many cities across the US and has even spent a brief period as a digital nomad. When she's not exploring new cities, she's spending time with her pup, Seamus.
