The Church must be unique by distinguishing itself and speaking against evil, crime, insubordination and disrespect, Evangelist Samuel N. Vandyke of the Methodist Church, has said.
He said, "even though the Church is expected to be the central line between good and evil" the activities of some Churches and their leaders had made it difficult for some people to identify themselves with it.
Evangelist Vandyke preaching at the launch of the 170th anniversary of the Sekondi Methodist Church on Sunday on the theme, "Chosen for the Mission of the Father," said while some Churches had lost their focus and mission, other ones had stock to "traditions and cultures" to the neglect of the word of God.
Evangelist Vandyke said, "God knows whatever is expected to happen and has made the necessary provision through the salvation of Jesus" and called on Christians to change their attitude to God and to remain committed to the calling of Christ.
The Right Reverend John Harvey Ewusi, Sekondi Diocesan Bishop of the Church, said the sacrifices of the early missionaries though full of misfortunes, had motivated others to continue.
He charged Christians not to allow criticisms to dampen their zeal but to work harder for the growth of the Church.
Odeneho Gyapong Ababio, II, President of the National House of Chiefs, said it was important for every individual to serve his or her generation and God truthfully.
He said without God, nothing meaningful could be achieved in life and charged the people to turn back to God.
A 17-member planning committee for the anniversary was inaugurated.
