President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo Sunday commissioned a fully furnished dual Court Complex building at Kintampo in the Bono East Region.
He also commissioned a newly constructed Administration Block for the Regional Feeder Roads Department in Prang, in the Pru West Constituency of the Region.
These forms part of the activities lined up for the President’s two-day working tour of the region, which began Sunday.
Addressing the ceremony for the Court Complex, President Akufo-Addo expressed the hope that it would be maintained to serve and promote justice and fairness towards sustaining the peace in the region.
He reiterated his administration's commitment to improve the well-being of the citizenry through the proactive and efficient implementation of pragmatic policies and programmes.
The contract for the construction of the Court Complex Building was awarded on April 19, 2019, at GH¢865,527.01, and was completed in November last year.
The facility will house the Municipal Court and an additional Court to be determined by the Chief Justice.
The construction of the complex forms part of deliberate measures by the Government to ensure easy access to law courts for the improvement of the rule of law.
The President said he announced earlier in the year when he delivered the State of the Nation Address to Parliament that the Government, through the Ministry of Local Government and the District Assembly Common Fund, had commenced, an unprecedented initiative to construct 90 courts.
These are to have accompanying accommodation for judges across the country, to help address the problem of inadequate court infrastructure.
Additionally, the President, in April this year, cut the sod for the construction of a permanent, modern Court of Appeal complex in Kumasi, which will help improve the justice delivery system for the northern sector.
Twenty townhouses and a guesthouse are also being constructed to serve as permanent residences for Court of Appeal Judges based in Kumasi, who will be mandated to handle cases there.
Once completed, appeals filed from Upper West, Upper East, Savannah, North East, Northern, Bono, Bono East, Ahafo, Western North and Ashanti Regions will be conveniently heard within a much shorter period.
Nana Adjei Adinkra II of the Mo Traditional Area, who spoke on behalf of the traditional authorities in the Municipality, appealed to President Akufo-Addo to assist the Judicial Service to upgrade the Court to a High Court, and also elevate the Kintampo Municipal Government Hospital to a teaching hospital.
The commissioned Administration Block for the Regional Feeder Roads Department at Prang was constructed at GH¢3,831,826.86.
Its completion is in fulfilment of a pledge made by the President to aid decentralisation by siting state institutions in various parts of the newly created regions, other than the capital.
