The gesture is part of the organization's relief support to help families especially children and vulnerable women through the unprecedented humanitarian, health, and economic crisis following the outbreak of Covid-19 in the predominantly finishing communities in Tema and Accra Metropolis.

The items, which included; bags of rice, boxes of cooking oil, breakfast items, beans, crates of eggs and assorted soft drinks, detergents, toiletries among others, were provided by the First Lady, Mrs Rebecca Akufo Addo - the Patron of SOS CV Ghana and The Maker's House Chapel International Emergency Relief.

Mrs Rosemond Boamah, Tema Programme Director, SOS CV Ghana, who joined officials of the NGO including Mr Dziedzom Owusu-Agbe, Tema Project Officer, SOS CV Ghana, during the distribution said the Covid-19 Emergency Relief Support was meant to provide some sustenance to families and lessen their plight amidst the Coronavirus pandemic.

She said as an organization which seeks the welfare of children and the destitute, it was essential to provide residents of these communities with food items to mitigate the impact the Covid-19 outbreak and lockdown could have on their living conditions.

"Managing and caring for vulnerable children and families is our priority and with the lockdown it is evident that the plight of residents have worsened so and there is need for such emergency relief support, "she said.

Madam Mavis Agatha Abla Ekpe, National Family Strengthening Advisor, SOS CV Ghana, noted that as an organization working with underprivileged children and families to provide alternative care and support, it was incumbent to extend similar support to the communities.

She expressed optimism that the items, albeit unsustainable, came as a supplementary support meant to help alleviate the plight of the most vulnerable residents in its programme locations "during this period of difficulty."

Mr Joshua Teye Agudah, Assembly Member, Dade Agbo Electoral Area, one of the beneficiary communities, expressed appreciation to the organization and said "it had played a vital role in the community especially youth development initiatives over the years."

Madams Grace Adu, Mary Arthur, Manko Tetteh and Esther Mensah, beneficiaries of the relief support, thanked SOS for the gesture as it had brought some reprieve to their families.
