Cosmo Seafoods company Limited, a Korean company based in Tema, has responded to President Akufo-Addo's rallying call for all and sundry to contribute to the national mobilisation against the deadly Coronavirus, donating protein products to nourish frontline Covid-19 heroes in Tema.
On Wednesday, the company donated canned fish to the Tema Regional Police Command and later on Thursday followed it with another donation to the Tema General Hospital.
A total of forty (40) boxes of tuna chunks in brine were handed over to the Tema Regional Police Command's lockdown operation team in the industrial city.
Mr. Lawrence Setsofia, Human Resource Manager of the company who handed over the donation praised the leading role that the Police were playing in the frontlines of the Covid-19 response saying the donation was a token of the company's appreciation for their efforts.
According to Mr. Setsofia, accompanied by Mr. Myung Jun Song, General Manager and Fredrick Martey, Legal Officer of Cosmos respectively, President Akufo-Addo's rallying call for all to help with the fight was unmistakable and therefore Cosmo, as a good corporate citizen, stepped up to do its part.
He reiterated that the company's good corporate citizenship naturally made it imperative for it to help with the social cause such as fighting to defeat Covid-19 and that even if President Akufo-Addo had not made the call, the company would still have stepped up to help.
Even so, he was full of praise for the President for the effective leadership he provided so far, adding that his ground troops, such as the Police in Tema, also responded to their commander's rallying call admirably.
Receiving the donation, the Tema Regional Police Commander, DCOP Oyirifi Akrofi, thanked Cosmo for the gesture, saying the donation would motivate his men and women on the ground.
The commander said the donation would be passed down to all the officers in the frontlines of the Covid-19 fight saying the troops will appreciate it.
Commander Oyirfi Akrofi reiterated the President's call for all hands to be on deck since no one person could defeat the deadly virus alone. He said Cosmo's gesture was a good one that should be emulated by all who could afford to contribute to the fight.
The company's Legal Officer, Lawyer Fredrick Martey, decried the stigmatization of Asians as the source and automatic carriers of the coronavirus, simply because the global infections first broke out in Wuhan, China.
According to him, that was crude and unfair, pointing out that the virus which belonged to the flu family could have broken out anywhere in the world.
He, therefore, called for a stop to the stigmatization of Asians, especially Chinese and Koreans over the Coronavirus Disease.
They also visited various checkpoints mounted by the security agencies within the Tema Metropolis, donating to officers in the line of duty in Ashiaman and Afienya as well, while praising their courage and giving words of motivation.
Later on Thursday, Cosmo similarly donated to the Tema General Hospital, reiterating the explanation of its motivation as both the call by the President and the company's own sense of good corporate citizenship.
Mrs. Bridget Zaukuu, Administrator of the Tema General Hospital received the donation on behalf of the facility and thanked the company for the kind gesture.
