The Central Tongu District Assembly in the Volta Region has formed a tasked force to enforce the directive against public gatherings to prevent the spread of COVID 19 in the country.
The taskforce, with membership of five, have been formed in all the 27 electoral areas in the Central Tongu District.
Mr Thomas Moore Zonyrah, District Chief Executive for Central Tongu District told Ghana News Agency that the main focus of the taskforce was to be on the lookout for public gatherings that would have more than 25 people.
"We have a hotline that the taskforce would contact when they get to know of any public gathering that would have more than 25 people and the police would get there to disperse the people," he said.
Mr Zonyrah said the Police were advised not to arrest the crowd but just to disperse them unless per their security discretions it becomes necessary.
He said the formation of the taskforce had been part of the measures taken by the Assembly to prevent the Coronavirus in the District adding that, "the various Assembly members were involved in the formation of the taskforce".
The District Chief Executive said the District had intensified education on how to maintain personal hygiene to avoid the virus.
"We have made two isolation Centres available in the Adidome District Hospital to quarantine suspected people and taps are being made available in the various market Centres for the market women to wash their hands regularly for free", he said.
Mr Zonyrah asked all citizens to adhere to safety measures.
