Family planning services among adolescent people in the Sunyani Municipality has improved, Madam Regina Osei, a rotational nurse at the Sunyani Municipal Hospital, said on Tuesday.
She said with continuous sensitisation, adolescent people in the Municipality have understood the concept of family planning and were accessing the various methods to guard against teenage pregnancies.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Madam Osei said unsafe abortion among teenagers in the Municipality has reduced. This is due to the availability, improved and easy access to sexual reproductive healthcare services at the various health facilities in the Municipality.
Dr Aaron Asare, a private medical practitioner, advised young people against sexual promiscuity, guard against unwanted pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections. He urged the youth to concentrate on their education to acquire the necessary training and skills to become professionals and national assets and contribute effectively for the progress of the country.
Dr Asare said with the implementation of the Free Senior High School education programme, girls have no excuse to become school dropouts.
