Ms Otiko Afisa Djaba, the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, has called on enumerators, coordinators and supervisors of the Ghana National Household Registry (GNHR) to gather accurate data in the forthcoming registration exercise to enable the Ministry achieve its stated objectives.
“You should know and understand that the quality of data collected and eventually the entire database starts with you. I would warn you not to attempt to forge any data because the systems are designed to detect that,” she said.
Ms Djaba said this over the weekend during an address to 72 Enumerators trained to undertake the registration exercise in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region.
Over 1000 personnel made up of 157 Coordinators, 135 Supervisors and about 808 Enumerators were trained across the Talensi District, Bolgatanga and Navrongo Municipalities as well as the Pusiga District.
They would be deployed to all the 13 districts in the Region from February 26 to March 31 this year to identify and gather data of extremely poor households.
Ms Djaba said the GNHR would be a sole database for the Gender Ministry to coordinate all social protection programmes, ease the identification of extremely poor households and eliminate duplication by other Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) involved in the implementation of interventions that focus on the poor and vulnerable.
She called on the selected personnel to see it as as an opportunity to serve their communities and country and entreated them to adhere to simple safety rules as they begin their travels.
Dr Prosper Laari, Coordinator of the GNHR, said the exercise is very critical because it would enable the Ministry to scientifically identify poor households and gather a robust database to complement all ongoing social protection activities.
Dr Christopher Boatbil, the Talensi District Chief Executive (DCE), said there is no need to politicize the registration process because poverty had no political colour.
He said whatever information they would churn out to the national level, would determine the kind of pro-poor policies that would be fashioned out for the various districts.
