The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has provided training for 45 sachet water producers in the Bawku Municipality and its environs on good manufacturing practices.
This was aimed at improving on the quality of sachet water for the consumption of the general public as water is a necessity.
The participants were taken through personal hygiene, storage and distribution practices, among other things at a day’s workshop during the weekend in Bawku,in the Upper East Region.
Mr Zakariah Braimah, FDA Director in the Upper East Region urged the producers to ensure that they serviced their equipment, ensured their facilities are hygienic to enable them produce quality water for drinking as the warm season approached because many people would be dehydrated and may drink enough water.
Mr Braimah entreated the producers to take the interest of their customers paramount and avoid chasing for profit, but should ensure that they adhered to healthy manufacturing practices that would turn out quality drinking water for the public.
Mr Braimah advised members of the public to take precautionary measures in selecting food and other groceries during the yuletide as the season approached. “Ensure that the items you choose from the marts, malls and supermarkets are wholesome. Check for expiry dates of goods before consuming them”.
He noted that as part of efforts to protect the public interest, the FDA had intensified post market surveillance activities as well as monitoring of the entering points into the country to ensure that no unregistered food products were brought into the country.
The Regional FDA Boss disclosed that his outfit was collaborating effectively with border officials such as the Customs and Excessive Preventive Services (CEPS) throughout the country to inspect any food item brought into the country.
Participants were cautioned to be wary of the laws governing the production of food and water for consumption as people found flouting laws would be dealt with accordingly.
