The Madina Divisional Police Command on Thursday organised a two-hour road decongestion exercise within the Municipality to get rid of hawkers who display their wares on the main roads.
The decongestion operation was led by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Mr Okyere Anane-Danquah with 35 other ranks from Kwabenya and Madina Police stations.
The road decongestion exercise begun earnestly at 0900 hours up to 1100 hours on Thursday and covered Madina-Zongo to the Madina Post Office area, from Atomic-Junction to Zongo-Junction and from Zongo-Junction to Ritz Junction.
All the principal roads in Madina were covered by the exercise that has created enough space for pedestrians in the municipality.
The road decongestion exercise also affected both private and commercial vehicles that were haphazardly parked on the shoulders of the roads.
The Police also arrested and prepared some of the recalcitrant drivers who refused to remove their vehicles from the pavements.
Superintendent Mr Joseph Oppong, Superintendent of Police who spoke to the Ghana News Agency after the exercise said it would be sustained to maintain free flow of human and vehicular traffic.
